Electronic music in Taiwan ranges from DJs who have developed their own techniques to electroclash and new wave stylized rock bands and more recently breakbeat hardcore and underground rave music projects that rely on sound engineering software and mixing hardware. The first Taiwanese artists to delve into obscure dance music forms like trance, ambient and drum n bass were the legendary turntablists DJ Lim Giong and DJ Fish who also contributed to the scene by holding free raves like the Her-he outdoor party at Hua-Chung Bridge Riverside Park in Taipei. By 2000, the laptop computer emerged as a valuable tool for creating experimental music. Early indie rock bands like Digihai, Claire and Green!Eyes used the machine to supplement their songs. Over time, the laptop has taken a larger role with live electric guitars serving to flesh out the manipulated loops. And while more and more high energy electroclash influenced bands in Taiwan have turned to a dance rock vibe with the help of DJ's, there is also a growing underground scene built by artists digital artists like Ironska and NullBomb that champion Creative Commons licensing by releasing global projects on self-made netlabels. All of these happenings have advanced electronic music on the island making it the diversified landscape it is today.
