WITCH HOUSE

Down a side alley in Taipei's university quarter is the Witch House, a cozy but vibrant cafe leaning more towards folk and world beat arts. Coupled with Fembooks, Taipei's first feminist book store, the cafe has a flare for radical sexuality which is reflected in the saucy food and drink menu and brassieres dangling from chairs. Space is limited so smaller acoustic and folk acts like Jasmine and 929 fit better amidst the tables and chairs, however, indie bands like The Peppermints and Freckle have also performed there. More established artists like acoustic pop singer Cheer Chen and aboriginal folk musician Panai have played to sold out audiences. A night at the Witch House might be a suitable choice for those looking for a more relaxing, yet thought-provoking alternative in the Taiwan scene.
