One of the first collective style labels to emerge on Taiwan is S4RS, a widespread amalgam of local bands with a home base in the southern city of Kaohsiung. Obviously the label's name is an in-joke invoking the disease that scourged the island several years ago; however, these artists have chosen the acronym to stand for "Search 4 Real Self." With goals in promoting punk, skate and underground rock subculture around the south of Taiwan, the label has enlisted a diverse number of bands including indie pop group Orange Grass, grunge rockers Kook, progressive emo band Fullcount, ska-core punks Shy Kicks Apple, and original Taiwan punks from Fire Ex, Maho and Damn Kidz. While all the bands affiliated with S4RS have released material independently, the group deserves mention as a cooperative efforts. Working with classic Kaohsiung punk band Maho on a revival of the Music Orgy rock shows has earned this label a mention as a continuation of traditions started by southern Taiwan punk endeavors like the Tainan Punk Alliance and Saucebox Records. Furthermore, S4RS seems like a good source of info for those looking for future happenings in the south Taiwan area.
